Intelligence Insights & patterns

Insights & patterns

Analyze only the rows you select and turn a focused report slice into practical observations.

Two actions

Σ

Summarize insights

Produces a concise summary, notable values, items needing attention, and possible next steps.

Find patterns

Looks for repeated statuses, clusters, extremes, inactivity, and simple relationships in selected rows.

These actions depend on the insights and patterns license feature flags.

Select the data

  1. Filter the report

Define the course, time period, population, or status that answers the current question.

  2. Select representative rows

Include enough records to support a pattern without including unrelated people or fields.

  3. Run one action

Choose summary for an executive readout or patterns for repeated signals and relationships.

  4. Verify against the table

Treat the output as an interpretation of visible rows, not as an authoritative finding.

Interpret results

Useful output can identify missing values, dominant or rare statuses, high and low values, stale access dates, unusual activity, grade bands, completion differences, or simple relationships between time, visits, progress, and outcomes.

Limits

Patterns are not causes. Small or selected samples can be biased. Use the output to guide follow-up, then verify the underlying Moodle records and organizational context.
  • Only selected, display-ready row data should be analyzed.
  • Hidden security fields, tokens, passwords, sessions, and unrelated rows must not be included.
  • One or two rows rarely support a meaningful pattern.
  • Learning time and visits are activity signals, not proof of attention or learning quality.
