Heatmaps & calendar drilldowns

Explore learning time and visits through interactive heatmaps across years, months, days, and hours.

Supported metrics

Learning timeActive tracked seconds, displayed as a readable duration.
VisitsCount of first successful tracking pings for page loads or sessions.

Open a calendar

Calendar links appear in configured report columns, app widgets, and report audit rows. Open a value to inspect its time distribution. Navigate from an overview into a month, day, and hourly breakdown where data exists.

Read the heatmap

Each heatmap cell represents one period in the current view. Color intensity is relative to the largest value in that result, so a darker cell means more activity within the displayed range—not an absolute performance level. Select a populated period to move from year to month, day, and hour detail.

  • Confirm whether the active metric is Learning time or Visits.
  • Read the active user, course, activity, or report filter tags before comparing cells.
  • Treat empty cells as no recorded value for that scope, not proof of inactivity.
  • Compare heatmaps only when their scope, metric, range, and timezone are equivalent.

Scopes

A calendar request carries a metric and a defined page scope. Supported experiences can focus on a user, course, activity, report page, or other tracked page provided by the report/app definition. Filter tags in the modal show the active context.

Aggregation timezone. Daily and hourly values follow the timestamps used by the Moodle site and the tracking rollups. Confirm site and user timezone expectations when reconciling boundaries.

Report audit calendar

In a report’s Audit logs tab, Visits and Time spent open a calendar limited to that report page and selected user. The modal uses the label Report time, shows User and Report filter tags, and does not link to the user-tracking report.

Availability

Calendar interfaces require the calendar feature in the current license. When unavailable, controls may remain visible in a disabled state so users understand the capability and required plan. Calendar values also require learning-time tracking data to exist.
